Daily Caller reported that David Asher, ex-State Department official who is now a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute think tank, announced that French intelligence officials warned the U.S. State Department in 2015 that China cut back on agreed-upon collaboration at the lab.
Asher said that the French were removed from the facility in 2017, and cooperation halted, so the French officials told the State Department about the significant concerns about the Chinese objectives.
