Because the violence didn’t stop, Mayor Mike Elliott issued a curfew until 6 a.m. Monday. Brooklyn Center closes all schools and other Monday activities, stated the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

The murder of Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old black boy, raised high tensions in the Minneapolis zone. The current event came amid heightened tensions because of the murder trial of Derek Chauvin. He was the former Minneapolis police officer charged with murder and manslaughter linked with Floyd’s death.

The looting caused considerable business damages, we can see from various videos on social media platforms.

A mob reached the police station and vandalized it. Police and National Guard troops attempted to scatter the rioters with tear gas, flash-bang grenades, and rubber bullets, stated the Star Tribune.

Brooklyn Center police announced that the shooting occurred at 2 p.m. on Sunday when police stopped one vehicle for a traffic infraction. They stated that they took the driver into custody when he returned to his car.

One police officer fired and hit the driver. Then, the car traveled only a few blocks and hit another vehicle. At the scene, Wright was pronounced dead. One female passenger in the vehicle was injured, but nothing serious.

Also, Officials offered words of consolation.

“Our entire community is filled with grief following today’s officer-involved shooting of Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old young man. Our hearts are with his family, and with all those in our community impacted by this tragedy,” – Elliott stated.

“While we await additional information from the BCA, who is leading the investigation, we continue to ask that members of our community gathering do so peacefully, amid our calls for transparency and accountability.”
Gov. Tim Walz tweeted about this event. He was “praying for Daunte Wright’s family as our state mourns another life of a Black man taken by law enforcement.”

Katie Wright is the dead boy’s mother, and she stated that her son did nothing wrong.

“All he did was have air fresheners in the car, and they told him to get out of the car,” – the mother said. She also shared that they talked on the phone before her son’s death.

Moreover, right before the call ended, someone said, “Daunte, don’t run.”

“He got out of the car, and his girlfriend said they shot him,” – the mother continued. “He got back in the car, and he drove away and crashed, and now he’s dead on the ground since 1:47. … Nobody will tell us anything. Nobody will talk to us. … I said, please take my son off the ground.”

However, John Harrington, Minneapolis Department of Public Safety Commissioner, shared that the National Guard has a beefed-up presence in the city.

On Sunday, the rioters were throwing “rocks and other objects” at the police.
