She did not want to admit it- she didn’t want to explain why Cubans are seeking to flee the dictatorial socialist regime.
Thousands of Cubans took to the streets in a recent spontaneous uprising, which was repressed by the state police.
On Wednesday, Psaki was confronted by Fox News’ Peter Doocy on whether the Biden administration can bring itself to say the “c-word” (communism) as being responsible for the Cuban’s plight.
Doocy mentioned an earlier statement about DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas warning Cubans seeking to come to the United States: Do not come here “illegally.”
Mayorkas said:
“Allow me to be clear, if you take to the sea, you will not come to the United States. Again, I repeat, do not risk your life attempting to enter the United States illegally. You will not come to the United States.”
Jen Psaki thumbed through her notes and replied:
“It’s important to understand the context of what the Secretary was conveying yesterday.”
The ‘missing context’ is actually that the Democratic Party doesn’t want potential Republican voters coming to America, even if they are legitimately fleeing political persecution.
With a hint of irony, Psaki said:
“It is still the case that it is not the way to come to the United States, is not through, through processes of trying to come to the border, that, without going through an asylum process, or coming by sea, without going through an asylum application process.”
She added:
“There are certainly programs… through which that some have been, have not been reinstated, I should say, that were in place, put in place by the Trump administration that are being reviewed, as he said yesterday, that would apply to the individuals and the people of Haiti and the people of Cuba as well.”
Peter Doocy then asked:
“And as the Biden administration tries to figure out the root causes of migration to the country, don’t we know that the reason people want to leave Cuba is because they don’t like communism?”
At this point, Psaki grinned awkwardly and stood silently, then held off on remarking.
“I am not sure what your question is.”
She kept acting dumbfounded and press Doocy:
“Why are people leaving Cuba or what is the process for them getting here?”
Doocy repeated:
“Again, do you think people are leaving Cuba because they don’t like communism?”
Psaki said:
“I think we’ve been pretty clear… they are opposed to the oppression to the mismanagement of the government in the country.”
That’s not ‘clear” to me!
The political system of communism is inherently oppressive, dictatorial, and corrupt, and the fact that the Biden administration cannot admit it is in itself disturbing.
