After the former Republican House Speaker John Boehner rattled off an expletive-laced insult to the Texas senator while recording audio for his upcoming book, Ted Cruz fired back at him.

While recording his memoir, Boehner reportedly went off-script and said:

“Oh, and Ted Cruz, go f*** yourself.”

Boehner’s spokesman later stated:

“I can confirm there were some off-script moments during his recording of the audiobook. He pretty much just let it fly, as he did when he was working on the book itself. ”

In a tweet, Boehner blamed his veering off the path on red wine:

“Poured myself a glass of something nice to read my audiobook. You can blame the wine for the expletives.”

Cruz used the opportunity while speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Florida to fire back at Boehner.

He started joking that the suggestion was actually not a request he could fulfill:

“You know yesterday, John Boehner made some news. He suggested that I do something that was anatomically impossible.”

Cruz, who is likely a contender for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination then asked:

“Who is John Boehner?”

Yet, the spat between the two is nothing new, as it lasts for several years now.

The main reason for this is because Cruz is an actual conservative and a true fighter, while Boehner spent much of his speakership bowing down to Barack Obama, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi.

In 2015, the Texas senator blasted Boehner for helping Democrats fund the government, Planned Parenthood, and the Iran nuclear deal:

“Speaker Boehner has decided to cut a deal with Leader Nancy Pelosi, the leader of the Democrats … and there were too many Republicans who were tired of seeing their leadership lead the Democrats, rather than lead the Republican Party.”

He then continued by saying that Boehner was resigning rather than facing repercussions for his actions:

“If he does what he and Leader McConnell promised, which is fund all of Barack Obama’s priorities, he would have lost his job.

So what did he do? He announced he’s resigning as Speaker and resigning as a member of Congress. That is unsurprising, but it also telegraphs the deal he’s just cut. It’s a deal to surrender and join with the Democrats.”

The following year, Boehner fired back, referring to Cruz as “Lucifer in the flesh” and a “jackass” before adding:

“I have never worked with a more miserable son of a bitch in my life.”

Cruz’s response to the insult was a familiar one, asking:

 ‘Who is John Boehner?’

He added:

“I’ve never worked with John Boehner. The truth of the matter is I don’t know the man. I’ve met John Boehner two or three times in my life.”

At CPAC, Cruz also attempted to joke about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the New York Representative who accused him of attempted murder, and Bernie Sanders.

He warned of “dark times” ahead with Democrats in power, adding:

“Bernie’s wearing mittens and AOC is telling us she was murdered.”
