When las month the 45-years-old golf legend careened off a road in a residential area of Rancho Palos Verdes, California, he suffered severe leg injuries and a gash on his chin. Woods’ vehicle rolled over several times, but he was said to be awake when the first people which arrived at the scene pulled him from the wreckage.
The incident drew worldwide attention and prompted public statements from former President Donald Trump.
While Woods recovers from the injuries, he will almost certainly be sidelined again this year from the sport he dominated for nearly two decades. When the golfer crashed, he was already recovering from another back surgery.
The crash may have been more serious than first thought, as a TMZ report claims.
After poring over data from Tiger’s SUV, sources with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reportedly told TMZ that there is no evidence he tried to slow down before the crash happened. As the outlet reports, the golfer “did nothing to avoid the crash once he lost control of the car.”
Tiger was allegedly driving normally before inexplicably speeding up, crashing, and only coming to a standstill position when the car had stopped rolling, according to data from the vehicle and surveillance videos from the area.
According to the LA County Sheriff’s Department, alcohol or drugs were not a contributing factor in the crash. Woods’ blood was never drawn because the people who helped him after the accident found him to be in a state of consciousness.
The medium offered their own hypothesis, suggesting that Woods may have passed out prior to the crash, but did not elaborate. According to TMZ, he had no memory of leaving the highway.
The incident from February was the latest setback for a man widely regarded as the greatest golfer of all time. He started his professional career in 1996, at the age of 20.
He won his first Masters Tournament when he was 21 old, defeating his opponents by a record 12 strokes. The year after, he won his first PGA Championship.
In 2000, Woods won the US Open and the British Open Championships. He will repeat both feats. He has won each major championship many times, but the golfers’ game has slipped since winning the 2007 PGA Championship as a result of problems with health and well-publicized personal matters.
In 2019, Tiger Woods astonished the world when, at the age of 43, he returned to win another Masters title as an afterthought. Over a period of three decades, he has won the green jacket five times.
