Oregon votes
Several counties in Oregon want to join the State of Idaho. The voting is part of the long movement to leave the state that has been led by politicians in Portland.

People in Malheur, Sherman, Grant, Baker, and Lake counties approved measures that would help county officials take steps to look into moving the Idaho border west to add the counties.
Move Oregon’s Border for a Greater Idaho aims to have the eastern counties join the state. They prefer Idaho’s conservative leadership.
“This election proves that rural Oregon wants out of Oregon,” lead petitioner Mike McCarter said in a statement to local media outlets on May 18. “If Oregon really believes in liberal values such as self-determination, the Legislature won’t hold our counties captive against our will. If we’re allowed to vote for which government officials we want, we should be allowed to vote for which government we want as well.”

McCarter told the Oregonian in 2020 that the attempt to join Idaho is actually a “lifestyle/values judgment” that draws a line between rural and urban residents.
Oregon’s Jefferson and Union counties approved measures in 2020. Petitions are also trying to absorb counties in Northern California.
In 2020, Idaho Gov. Brad Little, a Republican, told Fox News that Oregonians are “looking at Idaho fondly because of our regulatory atmosphere” and “our values.”
This attempt is a long shot as it requires a formal vote in the Democratic-controlled Oregon legislature. If this happens, Oregon and Idaho would have to reach an agreement. The US Congress will have to ratify the deal.
We haven’t witnessed many changes to state lines. Pretty much every change took place before the 20th century. In 1792, Kentucky was made from bits in Virginia. Maine was made from Massachusetts in 1820. In 1863, West Virginia joined the United States when Union states and counties left the Confederate ones in the Civil War.
Voters in Harney and Douglas will vote on similar measures in the elections.
McCarter said that Idaho state Reps. Barbara Ehardt and Judy Boyle will introduce a bill of relocation of the border between Idaho and Oregon in 2022.
