Liberals went after Gran Torino
Clint Eastwood’s 2008 masterpiece is their target now. Walt Kowalski had something to say about it. If you ask me, I’d say that today’s Hollywood would never give green light for the release of the movie.

You don’t need to be too smart to understand that this movie has nothing to do with racism. Walt caught the Asian teenager next door trying to steal his amazing 1972 Gran Torino. What did he do? He became his mentor and friend, making him work in the neighborhood and fix houses. Walt is the father figure Thao needed in his life. He made an incredible sacrifice to protect the teenager and his loved ones from local Hmong gang.
The situation in the country has triggered an avalanche of reactions related to the movie. Some say it causes Asian hate.
It’s interesting to note that some of the critics are actually people who worked on the project. Actor Bee Vang (Thao) says the movie “mainstreamed anti-Asian racism,” nothing that the laughter of white audiences still haunts him.
Mai Xiaong worked as a Hmong cultural consultant on the movie. She said producers ignored concerns about the ethnic slurs in the movie. “Zipper head,” “swamp rat,” and “gook.” She also complains about the picture of Hmong gangbangers who attack Thao and his loved ones. Xiong claimed that Eastwood’s movie failed to address the socio-economic factors that resulted in organized crime in minority communities.
Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Viet Thanh Nguyen criticized Gran Torino, too. According to him, the Hmong characters are “either gangsters or model minorities/allies in need of white rescue.”
Gran Torino has nothing to do with racism. But, Walt’s ethnic slurs are still memed on social media. Go on YouTube and you will see a nice supercut of Gran Torino’s worst insults.
It’s more than obvious that the left targeted Eastwood. People are racists or anti-racists. There’s nothing in between. That’s how liberals see things.
Gran Torino is one of the best movies we have ever seen. It’s a masterpiece and people love it. Walt is a great character and the story is also great.
