The Royal family lost Prince Phillip and they have organized his funeral. It will take place this Saturday. Royals usually wear military uniforms for funerals. This year is different. They are taking a completely different approach.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Queen Elizabeth has made a decision. No one will be wearing a military uniform to avoid further “embarrassment” for Harry and his uncle Prince Andrew.

Harry was in the military for a decade. He rose to the rank of Captain and had two tours of duty in Afghanistan. But, Meghan Markle’s husband lost his honorary military titles after he gave up on his royal life. Prince Phillip had passed him the role of Captain General of the Royal Marines.

In 2020, royal reporters Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durant wrote the book “Finding Freedom: Harry and Megan and the Making of the Modern Royal Family.” In their book, the duo wrote that being stripped of his honorary military titles was the worst experience for Harry after leaving his royal life.

“That’s been a tough pill to swallow, and one that has been the most painful for Meghan to witness him go through,” a source close to Harry and Megan was quoted in the book. “It’s the one that made Harry emotional.”

Harry’s uncle, Andrew, is the son of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. Andrew became an honorary Vice Admiral of the Royal Navy in 2015. Surprisingly, Andrew stepped down from the duty in November 2019. It happened right after stories linked him to late billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew denied the allegations and said he had never participated in underage intercourse with one of Epstein’s victims. He also announced that he wouldn’t take part in royal duties “for the foreseeable future.”

Philip died at 99. He took his last breath at Windsor Castle. The royal family will bury him at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on Saturday. The service will start with a three-minute moment of silence and it will be preceded by a Ceremonial Procession inside the castle. Philip’s coffin will be carried in “a purpose-built Land Rover — which The Duke was involved in the design of.”

Royal expert Katie Nicholl said that Prince Charles, Prince William, and Harry will walk behind Philip’s coffin.

“We understand that just as they walked behind Diana’s coffin at her funeral, Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry will walk behind Prince Philip’s coffin in what is going to be a very moving final farewell to the duke,” Nicholl told reporters.

COVID restrictions are set in place and only thirty people will attend Philip’s service. Nicholl said “it’s a small guest list, which will comprised mostly of immediate family, some extended family and a few of Prince Philip’s closest aides. Had we not been in a pandemic … it would have been a bigger funeral than what we were expecting on Saturday.”
