According to McCarthy, they had to “make a change.” He discussed this in a letter to Republican lawmakers.
“McCarthy has signaled his desire to remove Cheney for several weeks,” the AP added. “His Monday note seemed designed to provide whatever cover wavering GOP lawmakers might need to toss Cheney from her position.”
“If we are to succeed in stopping the radical Democratic agenda from destroying our country, these internal conflicts need to be resolved so as to not detract from the efforts of our collective team,” McCarthy remarked. “Having heard from so many of you in recent days, it’s clear that we need to make a change. As such, you should anticipate a vote on recalling the Conference Chair this Wednesday.”
Cheney will never ever get involved in Wyoming politics. She is probably finished in House leadership.
The third-ranking Republican in the House minority may remain in her position.
“House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy officially endorsed Rep. Elise Stefanik to become the GOP’s next House Republican conference chair during a Fox News appearance Sunday,” Axios reported.
On Tuesday, McCarthy trashed Cheney.
“I think she’s got real problems,” McCarthy said ahead of a Fox & Friends interview. “I’ve had it with … I’ve had it with her. You know, I’ve lost confidence. … Well, someone just has to bring a motion, but I assume that will probably take place.”
Former President Donald Trump endorsed Rep. Elise Stefanik for Cheney’s position.
“Liz Cheney is a warmongering fool who has no business in Republican Party Leadership,” Trump said. “We want leaders who believe in the Make America Great Again movement, and prioritize the values of America First. Elise Stefanik is a far superior choice, and she has my COMPLETE and TOTAL endorsement for GOP Conference Chair. Elise is a tough and smart communicator!”
Add Minority Whip Steve Scalise to the mix.
“Rep. Steve Scalise, the House GOP whip, also is backing Stefanik for Cheney’s post, said Scalise spokesperson Lauren Fine,” the AP reported. “The Louisiana Republican’s was the first explicit call from House GOP leadership to oust Cheney from her leadership job.”
In April, Trump criticized Cheney for her attitude.
“Liz Cheney is polling sooo low in Wyoming, and has sooo little support, even from the Wyoming Republican Party, that she is looking for a way out of her Congressional race,” Trump said. “She’ll either be yet another lobbyist or maybe embarrass her family by running for President, in order to save face. This warmongering fool wants to stay in the Middle East and Afghanistan for another 19 years, but doesn’t consider the big picture—Russia and China!”
This statement underscores Trump’s feud with Cheney. The House Republican voted to impeach Trump after the violent riots in the Capitol.
Cheney is out for good and we couldn’t be happier than this.
