Dear President Biden,

I am writing to you to withdraw my nomination for Director of the Office of Management and Budget. It has been an honor of a lifetime to be considered for this role and for the faith placed in me. I appreciate how hard you and your team at the White House have worked to win my confirmation. Unfortunately, it now seems clear that there is no path forward to gain confirmation, and I do not want continued consideration of my nomination to be a distraction from your other priorities. I am incredibly grateful for your leadership on behalf of the American people and for your agenda that will make such a transformative difference in people’s lives.

Tanden’s withdrawal was confirmed by the White House.

Tanden faced bipartisan opposition from Senate members due to the past tweets.

The news first broke when Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) said she had met with Tanden on Monday. The decision wasn’t made and she was doing her “assessment.”

Tanden contacted senators after her confirmation was shut down by Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (D-VT) line of questioning. Sen. Joe Manchin’s (D-WV) said Tanden would get a “no” from her.

Tanden had meetings with 35 senators on both sides of the Senate as confirmed by a source close to the confirmation process.

Biden’s cabinet picks went through the Democrat-led Senate. The President chooses Tanden to lead the OMB, which ensures the administration’s priorities are reflected in both legislation and regulations. However, Sanders questioned Tanden about her “vicious attacks” against the GOP establishment and progressives on Twitter, including “me, personally.”

Manchin confirmed the “no” vote against Tanden. No GOP senator has come out in favor of Tanden’s confirmation. Tanden needs Republicans to save her confirmation. That’s not likely to happen.
