Dr. Ronan Glynn, deputy chief medical officer in Ireland, says this suspension is the only solution they have at the moment. Norway’s medicines agency confirmed four cases of blood clotting in adults after receiving the AstraZeneca shot.
Glynn says there was no conclusive link between the vaccine and the blood clotting cases, but Irish health officials would rather suspend the vaccine as a precaution instead of dealing with serious consequences.
Danish, Norwegian, and Icelandic authorities made similar decisions. The World Health Organization and the European Union’s medicines regulator said there’s no connection between the vaccine and the elevated risk of blood clots.
The U.K.’s medicines regulator, the MHRA, claims that “reports of blood clots received so far are not greater than the number that would have occurred naturally in the vaccinated population,” adding that “available evidence does not confirm that the vaccine is the cause.”
They went even further to claim that people in this world need to get their shots.
