Facebook’s Australia News Ban Hits State Governments, Health Departments, and Weather Services

Several Facebook pages have been blocked after the platform banned Australians from sharing news
The pages of Australia’s Queensland, South Australia, ACT Health, the WA Fire and Emergency Services, and the Bureau of Meteorology are now blocked.

The social media giant has taken actions to restrict Australians from sharing big news. This was an unexpected response to a proposed media bargaining code.
These Facebook pages offer important government, health, and weather info and alerts.
A Queensland government spokesman told AAP revealed that they will contact Facebook and launch an investigation.
AAP journalist Benita Kolovos wrote on Twitter: “The pages of governments, MPs, health departments, the Bureau of Meteorology, numerous women’s shelters and even TV programs and radio stations are affected. Like I said, totally cool and normal of them.”

The Queensland Health page offered news to more than 600,000 people. About 307,000 people follow the SA Health page. The ACT Health Facebook page is followed by 52,000 people, and 301,000 people follow the WA Fire and Emergency Services page.
The Bureau of Meteorology provides updates and alerts to 909,000 users.
