Congressman Reminds MLB It Still Has 1 Big Legal Protection, But Woke Boycott Of Georgia May Have Just Endangered It

Get woke, go broke!

Is this the new anthem? Of course, people will never forget what the MLB did. The Major League Baseball Commissioner pulled the All-Star Game and 2021 draft from Atlanta. They didn’t like the new election integrity law Georgia passed.

The biggest response to this decision came from Congress.

Rep. Jeff Duncan, will soon introduce legislation to remove MLB’s antitrust exemption. This happened after Commissioner Rob Manfred confirmed the Georgia move.

This move “is the best way to demonstrate our values as a sport,” Manfred said in a statement. “Major League Baseball fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions to the ballot box.”

The left claims that the Georgia law is nothing but a “voter suppression.” Joe Biden said it was “Jim Crow in the 21st Century,” calling it “an atrocity.”

Duncan fired back at the MLB and announced his next move.

“In light of @MLB’s stance to undermine election integrity laws, I have instructed my staff to begin drafting legislation to remove Major League Baseball’s federal antitrust exception,” he tweeted  Friday.

“An overwhelming bipartisan majority of Americans support requiring an ID to vote, and any organization that abuses its power to oppose secure elections deserves increased scrutiny under the law,” the congressman added.

Revoking antitrust exemptions will have a huge impact on the MLB.

Fox Business reported that the “MLB’s antitrust exemption has been in place since a 1922 Supreme Court decision ruled that the league is a sport and not a business.”

Antitrust laws encourage competition by “limiting the market power of any particular firm.” This means “exemptions from these laws effectively eliminate industry competition for the league.”

If this exemption is revoked, it will promote competition in the “business” of baseball. This would put an end to the monopolization of the league.

Duncan isn’t the only Republican to slam the “woke” move.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio shared his thought, too.

“Dear GOP: @MLB caves to pressure & moves draft & #AllStarGame out of Georgia on the same week they announce a deal with a company backed by the genocidal Communist Party of #China. Why are we still listening to these woke corporate hypocrites on taxes, regulations & anti-trust?”

Sens. Mike Lee of Utah and Ted Cruz of Texas support the revoke move, too.

MLB received a big reminder of its antitrust exemption.
