Silverton, Colorado Mayor Shane Fuhrman suspended the practice of saying the Pledge of Allegiance in board meetings. He decided without board members’ votes. Town Trustee Molly Barela questioned his ability to make that change in the public meeting, live-streamed on the internet.

Fuhrman told the board members: “Due to direct and indirect threats, inappropriate comments in and out of public meetings, and the general divisiveness this is creating in our community, we will not be doing the Pledge of Allegiance during the town of Silverton board of trustee meetings.”

The mayor didn’t give any details about the threats and comments. Probably that was his way of gaining authority.
