It is reported that he will join Newsmax TV, the fourth-largest cable news network in the country.
It was reported that he privately told confidants that he does not intend to run for re-election and has chosen to take the position at Newsmax.
He is a controversial figure on the right, renowned for his constant support of the former President.
He is also a politically strong district in Florida’s panhandle.
Previously, he has hinted to some of his allies that he wants to enter the media and was considering a job at Newsmax.
Axios reported that it’s uncertain what kind of work Gaetz is searching for, but no one believes he’ll only become a daily news correspondent.
Axios’ sources state that he prefers to become a frequent contributor or even the host of a new show, as former GOP Rep. Trey Gowdy has done.
Yet, sources also claim that he is not done with politics.
In fact, he might step up his media profile to strengthen his conservative policy credentials in preparation for a larger political position in a potential GOP administration — and maybe even a future Trump administration, in case Trump seeks re-election in 2024.
Axios reported:
“Gaetz, 38, attended Florida State University and graduated from the College of William and Mary with a law degree. Before being elected to Congress in 2016, he served in the Florida House.
In midterm elections, the out-of-power party continues to win seats, increasing the risk of Republicans gaining control of the House in 2022.
Bill Shine, John Bolton, and Larry Kudlow, all former Fox executives, later joined Trump’s administration.
Gaetz, for one, seems to already possess influence within the GOP’s sprawling ‘MAGA’ faction. In late January, he traveled to Wyoming to campaign against Rep. Liz Cheney, the House’s No. 3 Republican, who has already faced many Republican challengers for her seat in 2022. (and polling-wise, she is already underwater).
“I believe Liz Cheney should hold a rally for all of her supporters inside one of the capitol elevators and still have plenty of space for social distancing,” Gaetz told a crowd at the Wyoming Capitol Building.”
