Biden’s Response to Putin’s Live Debate Challenge is the Funniest Thing You’ll Read All Day

Russian President Vladimir Putin has made U.S. President Joe Biden an offer he seemingly can refuse: A live debate.

Previously in the date the Russian authoritarian leader challenged the president of America.

“I’ve just thought of this now,” Putin earlier said to a Russian reporter. “I want to propose to President Biden to continue our discussion, but on the condition that we do it basically live, as it’s called. Without any delays and directly in an open, direct discussion. It seems to me that would be interesting for the people of Russia and for the people of the United States.”

The White House responded to the demand for a live debate, which could even take place on Google Hangouts or Zoom, with an excuse that is tailor-made: Biden is “quite busy.”

A peek at Biden’s schedule for Thursday (the White House declines giving detailed schedules ahead of time) shows three whole briefings. Listening to advisers for three hours must be very difficult.

U.S. president had provoked the challenge by categorizing Putin a “killer” in a Wednesday sit-down interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos. Biden also vowed that the Russian president will “pay a price” for election meddling.

“He will pay a price. We had a long talk, he and I, I know him relatively well,” the U.S. President said. “And the conversation started off, I said, ‘I know you and you know me. If I establish this occurred, then be prepared.’”

When Stephanopoulos asked Biden about his comment that he ‘did not believe the Russian president had a soul,’ he doubled down on the allegation.

“I did say that to him, yes, and his response was, ‘We understand one another.’ I wasn’t being a wise guy, I was alone with him in his office and that’s how it came about,” Biden said.

Earlier on Thursday, Putin replied with what is considered by some as a ‘veiled threat.’

My original translation from Russian to English focuses to capture a bit more of the nuance than is being generally reported. The Russian president says not only once, but twice that he wants Biden to ‘be healthy.’

“I would simply say to him, ‘be healthy,’” he said. “I wish you good health. I say that without irony and not as a joke.”

At her White House press conference, Jen Psaki stated that the U.S. president had no regrets about calling Putin a “killer.”

Does Biden regret it now that Putin has uncovered him as not capable of even showing up for a live-streamed debate?

Vladimir Putin doesn’t regret it, that’s for sure.
