The President stated:
“We must end the politics and misinformation that’s divided families, communities in the country, and it’s cost too many lives already.”
In an attempt to empathize with those who have lost loved ones to the virus, he used his own personal grief:
“I promise you. The day will come when the memory of the loved one you lost will bring a smile to your lips before a tear to your eye.”
President Biden pleads for an end to politics and misinformation surrounding COVID-19: "It's not Democrats and Republicans who are dying from the virus. It's our fellow Americans. It's our neighbors, our friends, our mothers, our fathers, our sons, our daughters, husbands, wives" pic.twitter.com/qZqcF6yPYZ

Biden: "Today we mark a truly grim, heartbreaking milestone. 500,071 dead. That's more Americans who have died in 1 year in this pandemic than in World War I, World War II, and the Vietnam War combined. That's more lives lost to this virus than any other nation on Earth." pic.twitter.com/bP7qRMyPgX

He also added that our country will be able to come together better through these massive losses:
“As we all remember, I also ask us to act, to remain vigilant, to stay socially distanced, to mask up, to get vaccinated when it’s your turn.”
In his speech, he urged Americans to be optimistic:
“While we’ve been humbled, we’ve never given up, we are America, we can and will do this. This nation will smile again, this nation will know sunny days again, this nation will know joy again.”
As he left the White House with First Lady Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, “Amazing Grace” was played by the military band.”
The speech might have been fitting in this moment of our history, but most agreed that the seemingly cheap shot at the former President was not necessary.
