Earlier this week, eight people were killed in shootings across Atlanta, and six of them were women of Asian descent.

Joe Biden stated that the shooting was another example of how racism has “plagued and haunted” American history.  He said:

“Whatever the motivation we know this: Too many Asian Americans have been walking up and down the streets and worrying, waking up each morning the past year feeling their safety and the safety of their loved ones are at stake. They’ve been attacked, blamed, scapegoated and harassed. They’ve been verbally assaulted and physically assaulted and killed.

It’s been a year of living in fear for their lives.”

Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris went to Atlanta to visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and they praised CDC officials for their work in the fight against the COVID-19 virus.

During the event, Biden said:

“We owe you a gigantic debt of gratitude. And we will for a long, long, long time because I hope this is the beginning of the end of not paying attention to what’s going to come again and again and again and again.”
