The 14-year-old was shot in the abdomen and arm. She was admitted to a hospital and her condition is critical. Chitwood reported that the boy surrendered and wasn’t shot
“I’m at a loss for words. Where did we go wrong that a 12-year-old and a 14-year-old think it’s alright to fight the cops?” he stated.
The kids ran away from their group home at Florida United Methodist Children’s Home (FUMCH) at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Chitwood said the girl came out of the house and threatened to kill Sgt. Donnie Maxwell.
“To de-escalate the situation, we throw a cell phone inside the house and try to communicate with them.” The 14-year-old walks out of the garage with a pump shotgun, aims it at deputies, and then walks back into the garage, disregarding warnings to drop it. When she returns a second time, deputies open fire,” Chitwood explained.
